    The Addiction Science Team at UMSL-Missouri Institute of Mental Health (UMSL-MIMH) conducts grant implementation and evaluation services for several federally- and state-funded research and service grants focused on substance use prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction efforts across Missouri. Our overarching goals include preventing overdose deaths, promoting the dignity and worth of people who use drugs, and reducing barriers to evidence-based treatment and recovery services. We accomplish this through training, advocacy, building and supporting community-based programs and partnerships, evaluation, quantitative and community-based research, and outreach. Given the diversity of the communities we serve, it is essential we approach our work with a focus on equity and an attitude of cultural humility.

    The Addition Science Team is specifically looking for an individual to take on the role of Assistant Director of Harm Reduction Programming to assist the Director of Harm Reduction Programming with the rapid growth of Community Harm Reduction Programming through the State Opioid Response (SOR) and Navigating Overdose Through Harm Reduction (NORTH*) grants. More specifically, this individual would be involved in program implementation in both lead and supportive roles, they will supervise and mentor staff, and assist the Director of Harm Reduction Programming in the development of new funding ideas and proposals to support the sustainability of the Addiction Science unit.

    • Oversee the expansion efforts of overdose education and naloxone distribution programs including supply allocation, budgeting, reporting, and partner meetings.

    • Manage and support the Operations Coordinator and Overdose Prevention Specialist on monthly supply ordering and grant supply spend-downs.

    • Serve as the supervisor on record for two Community Harm Reduction Overdose Prevention Specialist as direct reports.

    • Collaborate with the Director of Harm Reduction Programming on new program conceptualization, strategic planning, budgeting, and development of new grant/contract proposals.

    • Lead collaborative efforts with the Director of Harm Reduction Programming to enhance implementation quality improvement efforts.

    • Lead the creation of infographics, brief reports, and collaborate on manuscripts highlighting program outcomes, processes, and research findings as needed.

    • Represent the Addiction Science team during local, state, and national meetings and presentations.

    • Create and uphold robust strong working relationships with funders, community partners, and staff. partners, and staff.

    • Clearly communicate performance expectations for projects and adeptly navigate sensitive issues pertaining to community harm reduction.

    • Provide support to community harm reduction team on naloxone distribution efforts including supply packing, shipping, and supply moving which includes frequent moving of boxes weighing up to 40lbs.

    • Help shape long-term plans and strategies through collaboration with Addiction Science leadership and directors.

    • Demonstrate values consistent with diversity, equity, and inclusion to address racial disparities and advance equity in substance use services through intentional program implementation.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • A Master’s degree in social work, public health, health sciences, or related fields.

    • Management experience leading a team.

    • Possess an understanding of substance use disorder and harm reduction as well as the current research/literature regarding these topics.

    • Recognizes ways that race, and other identities intersect in the work, especially with communities we serve and is comfortable talking about identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, or gender in plain, specific terms.

    • Possess an understanding of harm reduction.

    • Possess a high level of organization and self-direction.

    • Be skilled in Microsoft Office and Web-based interface to independently manage data tracking through Excel spreadsheets, compose PowerPoint presentations, and develop info-graphics and one-pagers for public presentations.

    • Proficient in Zoom / Teams Video Conference systems and Microsoft Outlook Calendar
